The Cyber Engineer Internship Program at Wendel’s Williamsville, NY office is designed for senior undergraduate and master’s‑level students seeking hands‑on, real‑world experience in building and operating an enterprise cybersecurity program within a professional services environment.

This role provides meaningful responsibility and visibility, supporting the development, maturation, and formalization of Wendel’s cybersecurity program while working closely with IT leadership and operational teams.

Internship Purpose:

Cyber Program Development & Governance

  • Support the development and ongoing maturity of Wendel’s cybersecurity program.
  • Assist in defining governance structures, standards, and operating procedures aligned with business needs and industry best practices.

Policy Development & Documentation

  • Draft, review, and update cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Translate technical, regulatory, and risk requirements into clear, actionable guidance for internal teams.

Security Architecture & Technology Stack

  • Consult on the design, selection, and optimization of Wendel’s security technology stack.
  • Participate in evaluations of endpoint, identity, network, cloud, and monitoring/security operations tools.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and operations teams to embed security into design and operations.

Incident Response & Cyber Investigations

  • Participate in cybersecurity incident response and investigation activities.
  • Progressively assist in leading incidents, including analysis, containment, remediation, and post-incident reviews.
  • Help develop and maintain incident response playbooks and escalation procedures.

Cross-Functional Cyber Advisory

  • Serve as a cybersecurity advisor to IT, engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • Communicate cyber risk and security recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Mentorship & Learning Outcomes

  • Participants will receive direct mentorship from Wendel’s IT and leadership and gain exposure to enterprise-scale cybersecurity operations.
  • By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
    • Contribute to and lead elements of an enterprise cybersecurity program
    • Author and maintain cybersecurity policies and standards
    • Evaluate and recommend security technologies
    • Participate in and lead incident response activities
    • Operate effectively within a corporate, professional services environment

Requirements:

  • Senior undergraduate or master’s‑level student pursuing cybersecurity, computer science, information systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • Foundational knowledge or hands‑on experience in cybersecurity, IT, networking, cloud, or related technical areas.
  • Strong interest in enterprise cybersecurity, governance, risk management, and incident response.
  • Ability to work on‑site in Buffalo, NY

Hourly Pay Range: $19.00 - $21.00

The hourly rate offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The rate offered will also take into consideration regional adjustment factors.
