About the Role

Summer Position: 

Full Time - 40 hours per week 

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (Hybrid)  

 

The Water Rights, Supply and Analytics group is composed of three collaborative sections: Water Rights, Raw Water, and Water Resource Analysis. Water Rights is responsible for defending Denver Water’s interests in water court and acquiring new water rights as needed; Raw Water manages operations for conveying Denver Water’s raw water and reusable water supplies to storage and its water treatment plants; and Water Resource Analysis maintains, develops, and conducts studies using Denver Water’s long-range planning model, which includes reservoirs, diversions, rivers, and other operations in both the Colorado and South Platte River BasinsAs one collaborative group, the Water Rights, Supply, and Analytics group ensures Denver Water’s raw water supply is reliable and resilient for customers today, and into the future. 

Internship Project Description: 

This intern will join the Water Rights team in the Water Resource Strategy division and will: 

 

  • Provide support across the Water Rights, Raw Water Supply, and Analytics group. 
  • Research, analyze and summarize hydrological, climate and other data in support of water rights investigations, Water Court cases, and raw water modeling. 
  • Review and summarize contracts and agreements in support of improved operations and modeling efforts. 
  • Research approaches for determining system yield, reliability, and resiliency. 
  • Assist staff with field work and other site investigations.  
  • Coordinate customer outreach in response to implementation of drought restrictions in the Denver Water service area. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform this intern project:

During the Summer Intern Program, there are three(3) mandatory events.  

Intern positions do not come with any benefits other than holiday pay and Accrued Paid Sick Leave. Interns and Denver Water Temps accrue one hour of Accrued Paid Sick Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year per the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act. 

Qualifications

Hiring Criteria: 

The position may be a paid position and/or for school credit. However, the candidate must currently be a student attending college/university or must have graduated in the last six (6) months. 

Education Requirements:  

  • Junior, Senior, or Graduate level student majoring in Engineering, Hydrology, Geohydrology, Watershed Science, or a related field.

Pre-Employment Requirements:  

  • A background check including education and criminal history. 

 

An offer of employment may be contingent upon satisfactory results of a post-offer drug test and alcohol. Denver Water tests for the following: amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana (THC), opiates, and phencyclidine (PCP). A strength test may also be conducted due to the physical requirements of the position. This strength test may include lifting, pushing, and pulling various amounts of weight as well as crouching, squatting, and lifting one’s own body weight from various positions. If the position is deemed safety-sensitive or requires a CDL, you will be placed on the random drug and alcohol testing list, which means you may be tested if your name is selected while employed at Denver Water.
