About the Role

General Summary

Newport Construction is seeking a motivated Summer Intern to support its Construction Department. The intern will gain hands-on experience working on a variety of new construction projects, including multifamily and commercial developments. This role offers exposure to all phases of the construction process while working closely with Directors and Project Managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director and Project Managers with assigned construction projects
  • Proactively contribute to project teams and daily operations
  • Follow directions and complete project-related assignments accurately and on time
  • Manage personal workload and prioritize tasks based on guidance provided
  • Receive, review, distribute, and track submittals
  • Prepare, review, distribute, and track Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Assist with bid package preparation and procurement activities
  • Track and inspect material deliveries to job sites
  • Assist in preparing monthly owner project status reports, as required
  • Attend project meetings and accurately record meeting minutes
  • Assist with project close-out documentation and procedures

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of the construction industry
  • Basic math and accounting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion at all times

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional communication when interacting with coworkers, management, clients, and other stakeholders
