The Position

The Opportunity:

  • The Summer at Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience. Interns enjoy opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees throughout our organization. Additionally, we help our students meet their career development and educational goals while potentially building a future with the Roche organization.

  • As a Bioinformatics Software Engineering intern, you will be part of a team of forward-thinking scientists, engineers, and researchers building production-grade bioinformatics software to extract meaningful insights from genomic data using cutting-edge bioinformatics algorithms.

  • This interdisciplinary internship provides a unique chance to leverage your expertise in both bioinformatics and computer science and bridge the gap between academic research and industry application. You will directly contribute to the development of high-performance and scalable software solutions that will significantly impact life science fields including next-generation sequencing, diagnostics, and precision medicine.

Who You Are:

  • Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Bioengineering, or related fields.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux based environments and command-line tools.

  • Basic knowledge of genome bioinformatics and DNA sequencing.

  • Experience with popular programming languages used in bioinformatics such as Python and C/C++.

  • Experience with version control systems like Git.

Preferred:

  • Experience with parallel programming, systems programming, and performance optimization. C++ experience is preferred.

  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and libraries used in next-generation-sequencing (NGS) data analysis.

  • Experience building or running bioinformatics algorithms or pipelines.

Additional information:

  • Location: Hybrid, Based in Mississauga (majority of days in the office)

  • Duration: This position is a 4 -month work term, full-time (35 hours per week), expected to start in May 2026.

  • Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week).

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Mississauga is 57 416,00 and 75 358,50 of hiring range. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors as determined by the company.
