Our team...

The Engine Performance team is part of the Technical Engineering Department and serves as the link between the engine manufacturer and the various aircraft disciplines at Bombardier (Aircraft Performance, Thermodynamics, Air Systems, etc ). The team is responsible for ensuring the engines meet their minimum performance requirements (thrust, internal temperatures, fuel consumption, rotational speeds, etc) at delivery and maintain their airworthiness during operation. The team is actively involved in the development of new aircraft types, their certification as well as entry-into-service. The various team members are involved in several projects ranging from improvements to existing aircraft to research and development of new platforms.

From day one, you will contribute to the delivery of real projects using the latest technology to solve business problems. Over the course of your internship, you will receive one-on-one training and coaching from a team of talented experts and take on increasingly, while learning in a challenging and rewarding environment.

The intern will assist the team in various tasks, propose ideas to improve the tools and processes that will benefit the overall work quality.

What are your contributions to the team?

  • Create, update or improve existing tools in Python or convert them to Python
  • Improve your knowledge in aeronautics and apply learned concepts to practical cases
  • Provide technical support to thermodynamics, hydraulics, electrical and fuel system disciplines
  • Analyze flight test data, if applicable
  • Learn the functionality of the engine performance cycle model
  • Provide technical support to pneumatics systems integration, definition of engine idle thrust setting (including for steep approach) and definition of engine transient characteristics in flight
  • Research on artificial neural networks applications to engine performance

How to thrive in this role?

  • You’re currently studying in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) and have a passion for aeronautics. Specialization in aeronautics is an asset
  • You have completed courses in aircraft performance, fluid mechanics or turbomachinery
  • You have good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • You have a good knowledge of Python, Fortran and/or C++
  • You have good communication skills and can work well within a team and interact with other members of the team
  • You can work with a minimal level of supervision and be proactive in proposing solutions and improvements

It is important to note that our internship opportunities are open to students only, not new graduates. All our interns may be required to occasionally travel outside of Canada for training/work purpose.
