About the Role

EWTN News is seeking five passionate, talented students for our 2026 Summer Internship Program in Washington, DC. Interns will collaborate with experienced professionals across broadcast, production, digital, and editorial teams while contributing to real-world projects that shape Catholic news coverage. As a News Intern, you will support the day-to-day operations of your assigned department (i.e., Broadcast Writing, News Production, Digital Services, EWTNNews.com (formerly CNA), or the National Catholic Register (NCReg). You’ll gain hands-on experience creating content for TV, digital platforms, and print, while assisting with essential newsroom and technical tasks across our global News organization. WHAT YOU WILL DO:


All Roles:

  • Actively participate in structured 10-week program by attending required workshops and training sessions on various topics relevant to developing a successful career path within Catholic journalism.
  • Participate in various team, department, and editorial planning meetings related to upcoming news and event coverage.
  • Collaborate with managers, staff, and the entire 2026 Summer Intern Class to plan, develop, and execute a final keystone project. 

Broadcast Writing Intern

  • Assist in writing news packages, voiceovers, teases, discussion segments, and scripts for TV newscasts.
  • Support newsroom and control room functions, including teleprompter, guest hospitality and booking, script distribution, and rundown archives.
  • Contribute to Rome/Vatican content production.

News Production Intern

  • Support studio and field shoots alongside Producers and Production staff.
  • Take detailed technical and timing notes for post-production.
  • Perform control-room tasks such as teleprompter, CG operation, tape logging, and lighting setup.

Digital Services Intern

  • Collaborate with Digital and Broadcast teams to coordinate on-air and online news coverage to strengthen brand awareness and audience engagement.
  • Create content for websites, apps, and various social media platforms.
  • Assist with managing multiple social media accounts and executing the EWTN Digital Strategy.

EWTNNews.com & NCReg Editorial Interns

  • Report, research, and write one - three articles per week under the guidance of assigned editors and with counsel from the editorial team.
  • Conduct thorough and professional interviews in person, by phone/video, or via email.
  • Prepare articles for publication, including headlines, summaries, and image selection.

ABOUT YOU:


All Roles:

  • You are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, Broadcast Production, Media Technology, or a related field. (or recent graduate)
  • Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of the faith and a genuine commitment to EWTN’s mission.
  • Prior experience in a professional office environment; newsroom experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong interest in following current events—Catholic, local, national, and international.
  • Able to work full time (M–F, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.) on-site in DC for 10 weeks (June 1 – August 7).
  • Able to travel locally, as needed, for breaking news or special events.

  • Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively apply AP style and journalistic standards.

EWTNNews.com, NCReg, Broadcast Writing, and Digital Services:

  • Solid news judgment and ability to proactively develop, refine, and pitch story ideas relevant to the Church and current affairs.
  • Excellent online research skills; ability to efficiently navigate and work within various social media platforms.

Broadcast Writing & Digital Services:

  • Strong newsroom or TV writing skills.
