Job Description:

At BW Converting, we believe our internship program is vitally important—and one to which we are fully committed. Our program is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience that helps bridge the gap between academic study and a successful engineering career.

The Engineering Intern Program is open to qualified students enrolled in an appropriate engineering curriculum. As an Electro-Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will contribute to the development of innovative solutions for new equipment and machine upgrades. Your work will include opportunities in analysis, design, assembly, and testing, while gaining exposure to real-world manufacturing environments.

Interns work as part of a cross-functional engineering team, collaborating with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and HPL engineers, and interacting with Product Management, Purchasing, Operations, and Sales. There is a strong focus on safety, machine ergonomics, automation, capability, and efficiency.

Essential Functions

With guidance from a leader or mentor, interns will:

  • Design electro-mechanical aspects of machinery using sound engineering principles and best practices
  • Analyze designs to ensure adequate component life, functionality, and conformance to process requirements and standards
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to develop seamless, integrated machine designs
  • Assist the commercial team with proposals and integrate designs into customer-specific applications
  • Support equipment assembly, testing, data collection, and documentation of results
  • Collaboratively support sold and development projects
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and product specifications
  • Debug assemblies and machines by identifying and correcting issues affecting proper operation
  • Assist with the evaluation and resolution of in-field equipment issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Education & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year Engineering degree program (Mechanical, Electrical, or Electro-Mechanical) from an accredited university
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience assembling mechanical and electrical components using prints, schematics, and sketches

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Design and detailing using 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD 2D, SolidWorks 3D, EPLAN)
  • Familiarity with control systems, PLCs, and HMIs
  • Ability to perform engineering analysis as required (e.g., Finite Element Analysis)
  • Willingness to work in manufacturing, assembly, and test environments
  • Participation in special product line projects, including improvement or developmental initiatives
  • Exposure to R&D activities, assembly, testing, and instrumentation (as applicable)
