The John Michael Kohler Arts Center is a not-for-profit organization established in 1967 for aesthetic and educational purposes.

2026 SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY - PERFORMING ARTS

Do you enjoy working behind the scenes at a musical, dance, or theatrical performance?
The John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex in Sheboygan, WI, is seeking a Performing Arts Intern to join our dynamic Public Programs team for our exciting Summer 2026.
In this hands-on role, you will assist with the planning, promoting, and implementation of our summer performing arts events. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in how a cultural institution brings live performances to its community.
What You will Do
June 2 – August 21 (may be flexible);
29 hours a week, including some nights and weekends.
Required dates: June 6, July 4, July 17 – 19
This is a paid internship. Interns may also be eligible to receive course credit for this internship through their school, but it is the intern's responsibility to pursue this option through their school or university.

What You will Do
- Assist in the planning, marketing, and execution of our 10-week outdoor concert series
- Assist in the planning and marketing for Wayside Days and fall performance residencies.
- Develop auxiliary programming/outreach opportunities for artists to work with the public before or after performances
- Collaborate with Arts Center staff, local/regional businesses, agents, and performers to book transportation, lodging, hospitality, etc.
- Provide general administrative support to the Public Programs team as needed
- A current undergraduate or graduate student (or recent graduate) in arts administration, performing arts (dance, music, theatre), communications, or a related field
- Able to communicate effectively and comfortably with many constituencies, including: coworkers, Arts Center patrons, agents, and performing artists.
- A strong written and verbal communicator; organized and adaptable
- Experienced providing excellent customer service, particularly in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- You have had some prior experience and interest in event promotion, logistics, and/or planning in the performing arts. (Preferred)
- Behind-the-scenes experience in the execution of a multi-date concert series
- Experience working with agents, talent, and corporate event sponsors
- Mentorship from experienced performing arts programmers and the groundwork for building a network of peers in the arts/arts administration community
- Insight into how cultural institutions engage diverse communities with regional and national visiting artists
