About the Role
<p>Torrance, CA | Heart Aerospace</p>
<p>At <strong>Heart Aerospace</strong>, we’re building the <strong>ES-30</strong>, a groundbreaking regional <strong>hybrid-electric airplane</strong> designed to carry 30 passengers with <strong>zero-emission capability up to 200 km</strong> and an extended hybrid range of <strong>400 km</strong>. Our goal: achieve <strong>type certification by the end of the decade</strong> and shape the future of sustainable aviation.</p>
<p><strong><u>Your Mission</u></strong></p>
<p>As a <strong>Flight Software Intern</strong>, you’ll support the full lifecycle of the software that powers the ES-30 aircraft. You will work closely with experienced engineers to:</p>
<ul>
<li>Develop and refine software requirements.</li>
<li>Write high-quality, reliable embedded code.</li>
<li>Build tests, test infrastructure, and simulation tools.</li>
<li>Support documentation and verification processes.</li>
<li>Collaborate across a multi-functional engineering teams.</li>
<li>Contribute to the foundations of next-gen flight software, including:</li>
<ul>
<li>Aircraft control functions</li>
<li>Simulation models and flight dynamics</li>
<li>Fault-tolerant system behaviors</li>
<li>Hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop test systems</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<p>This internship is designed for students who want hands-on experience shaping the future of electric aviation while working alongside industry experts.</p>
<p><strong><u>You’re a Great Fit If You Are:</u></strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Currently <strong>pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree</strong> in <strong>Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering</strong>, or a related field.</li>
<li>Passionate about <strong>aviation, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology</strong>.</li>
<li>Writing code with an emphasis but not limited to <strong>Rust, Python, C, or C++.</strong></li>
<li>A strong communicator with solid teamwork skills.</li>
<li>Excited to learn how modern aircraft software is designed, tested, and certified.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong><u>Nice-to-Have Skills (Not Required!)</u></strong></p>
<p>If you have any of these, that’s a bonus — but not expected for interns!</p>
<ul>
<li>Exposure to <strong>embedded systems</strong>, microcontrollers, or real-time operating systems.</li>
<li>Project or internship experience with <strong>hardware-software integration</strong>, <strong>system level testing and CI/CD.</strong></li>
<li>Familiarity with <strong>modeling or simulation tools</strong> (e.g., 6-DoF simulators, battery models).</li>
<li>Interest in system architecture, safety-critical design, or fault-tolerant software.</li>
</ul>
