About the Role

Blue Cross of Idaho is seeking a Healthcare Economics Analyst Intern to join our Healthcare Economics team for the Summer. This opportunity will allow an individual to develop analytical skills, learn about the health insurance industry, and make data-driven recommendations to business leaders.

This paid internship will be located at our corporate headquarters in Meridian, ID and may have some opportunity for hybrid work.

What we are looking for in an intern:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, preferably a junior or senior standing students
  • Pursuing degree in math, statistics, data science, actuarial science, economics, finance, engineering, computer science, accounting, or related field.
  • Experience with SQL, R, Python or other relevant software
  • Extract and analyze information from large data sets
  • Learn about the healthcare and health insurance industries
  • Gain experience with statistical modeling
  • Communicate highly technical information in clear and concise manner

What you will learn on this internship:

  • Examines and identifies data patterns and trends to help answer business questions and improve decision making
  • Performs analytic research, experience studies, and statistical analyses and calculations
  • Researches and applies knowledge of existing and emerging statistical and data science principles, theories, and techniques.
  • Explains analysis to technical and non-technical audiences of both internal and external customers, including senior leadership and physicians.
  • Makes proficient use of spreadsheets (Excel), programming languages (SQL, R, Python, etc.) and other relevant software to gather and manipulate data and complete modeling tasks.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
