Position Title: Web & Social Media Assistant

Reports to: Marketing and Communications Manager
Position Summary
The Web & Social Media Assistant manages Associated Students' social media channels and website
to enhance brand awareness, promote programs and events, and engage the campus community.
Essential Functions
Social Media Management
● Create, post, and monitor engaging content (captions, videos, graphics) across A.S. social
media platforms, primarily Instagram and Facebook
● Monitor social media channels daily and respond to community posts and inquiries in a timely
manner
● Attend A.S. and campus events to capture content and post live updates
● Collaborate with the marketing team, Board of Directors, and department representatives to plan
and create video content
● Promote campaigns, surveys, and applications by distributing links and calls-to-action across
platforms
● Track campus news and social media to share timely, relevant information with the A.S.
audience
Web Content Management
● Update and maintain the A.S. homepage and department pages using Omni CMS
● Post announcements, events, web banners, and documents; ensure navigation is clear and
intuitive
● Maintain consistent design, formatting, and branding across all A.S. web pages
● Ensure A.S. core values and campaign messages are applied consistently throughout the
website and social media
Analytics & Reporting
● Track and report on social media metrics and content performance using departmental
standards
● Provide regular project status updates to supervisor using appropriate communication channels
(Slack, email, in-person)
Collaboration & Professional Development
● Communicate regularly with A.S. staff, photographers, copywriters, and web developers to
coordinate projects
● Attend regular department staff meetings and ongoing professional development trainings
● Research emerging social media platforms and digital trends; develop and test new strategies
to optimize audience engagement
Required Meetings & Training
● Weekly Department Meetings: Fridays (schedule may adjust based on team availability)
● Marketing Department Staff Training: Bi-semester professional development sessions
(dates TBD and communicated in advance)
● CMEG Student Assistant Training: Full-day orientation sessions for all CMEG department
student staff (CCCAC, Marketing, Events, Garden)
○ Fall 2026: August 18, 11:30 AM – 5:00 PM
○ Spring 2027: January (date and time TBD)
Note: Training dates are set well in advance to ensure student schedules can accommodate
attendance. These sessions are essential for role success and team coordination.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
● Proficient in or able to quickly learn Omni CMS for website management
● Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Express), Canva Pro, and other
design tools to create brand-aligned graphics
● Strong understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn),
including algorithms, engagement metrics, and best practices
● Ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content for diverse student
audiences
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to maintain a consistent
organizational voice
● Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects and
meet deadlines
● Good judgment in prioritizing tasks and determining appropriate reporting methods based on
project urgency
● Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams and stakeholders
● Understanding of university environments and commitment to supporting A.S. mission and
goals
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Office environment using standard office equipment
Part-time hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Ability to operate computer (keyboard, mouse) and phone
Occasional lifting or carrying of office/marketing materials up to 40 pounds, accommodations available will be provided upon request.
Required Education & Experience
● Must be a current SJSU student
● Proven experience using social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat,
YouTube)
● Experience with Google/Gmail and Microsoft programs (Word, Publisher, Excel)
● Preferred: Concentration in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or Marketing
● Preferred: Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS)
