Mechanical Engineering Intern (Summer 2026) - NJ

(OPT) provides intelligent maritime solutions and services that enable safer, cleaner, and more productive ocean operations for the defense and security, oil and gas, science and research, and offshore wind markets, including Merrows™, which provides AI-capable seamless integration of Maritime Domain Awareness Systems across platforms. Our PowerBuoy® platforms provide clean and reliable electric power and real-time data communications for remote maritime and subsea applications. We also provide WAM-V® unmanned surface vehicles (USV’s) and marine robotics services. The Company’s headquarters is located in Monroe Township, New Jersey with an additional office in Richmond, California.

The Role:

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the engineering team in the mechanical design and analysis of OPT products and systems.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the Mechanical design and analysis of OPT’s products
  • Prepare and document design specifications, data collection and analysis. 
  • Carry out theoretical mechanical/structural analyses.
  • Prepare technical reports to document the methodology and results of work performed.
  • Assist with departmental documentation and administrative projects. 
  • Perform other tasks as required. 

Qualifications:

  • Junior or Senior status in a 4-year university pursuing an Engineering degree. 
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Experience with SolidWorks (or similar CAD design software).
  • Experience with ANSYS (or similar FE analysis software) a plus.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Hourly rate is $23.00 and includes the following for eligible employees:
