About the Role

Goodwyn Mills Cawood, LLC (GMC) is one of the largest, privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, recently recognized by ENR as Southeast’s Design Firm of the Year for 2024. We have 27 offices located throughout Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. GMC (Goodwyn Mills Cawood) is seeking a Landscape Architecture Intern (Auburn) in Birmingham, AL and other office locations for the Summer of 2026.  We are seeking creative, self-motivated individuals who thrive at critical thinking and problem solving.  Interns will have the opportunity to grow professionally and personally in a fun, collaborative environment while working side-by-side with senior staff and other design team members across a range of project types, both public and private. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A positive attitude coupled with a strong eagerness to learn!
  • Ability to think critically and problem-solve across a diverse range of objectives and tasks
  • Demonstrated passion for design, with a keen ability to conceptualize and craft exceptional spaces that inspire and engage
  • Working knowledge in the following programs: 
    • Photoshop
    • Sketch-up 
    • AutoCAD 
  • Ability to receive constructive critiques and apply feedback for design work produced in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Provide work samples or portfolio upon request

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge in one or more of the following programs: 
    • Lumion 
    • InDesign
    • Illustrator
    • Land-FX
    • Rhino

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • Assist in design and design graphic creation
  • Collaborate on design projects with project team members, architects, engineers, and clients both written and orally
  • Prepare both hand drawn and/or digital visual representations of outdoor spaces
  • Prepare, present, and edit design images (plan, section, perspectives, 3D model) to fit changes, critiques, or suggestions by clients and/or project leadership
  • Assist in the production of construction level drawings under the leadership of Professional Landscape Architect including: hardscape, planting schedules and design, construction details, and others
  • Visually Inspect project sites and provide written reports under the direction of landscape architect and other project leaders
  • Ability to service and repair lawn maintenance equipment (lol…just kidding!)
