Job Title: Intern, Government Relations

Contract Type: 3-month contract

Summary of Employment Opportunity

Earnscliffe Strategies is hiring an intern, for a four-month period, to support the Public Affairs service line of the organization. The role will report to the Director of Monitoring and Insights, under the President of Public Affairs. This role will support the activities related to the monitoring of government activities, policy research and production of company products as needed. This role would be well suited to an ambitious, detail oriented, creative and multi-faceted candidate at the beginning of their career looking to expand their knowledge in Canada’s political environment and policy processes.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Monitoring

  • Support in the monitoring of government announcements, Parliamentary proceedings, committee proceedings and overall policy & political developments as needed.
  • Support in the development of materials aimed at client and corporate members.
  • Knowledge of government databases (Hansard, GEDs, other House of Commons resources) is an asset.
  • Produce daily monitoring products designed to provide essential up-to-date information to company colleagues from various jurisdictions in Canada.

 

Product Development

  • Support in the development of first drafts of briefing notes, contact lists and other products as necessary.
  • Participate in research tasks that provide background information for broader research products to be shared with the company.

Other

  • Assist in general office duties (setting up for meetings, organization, kitchen duties, purchasing supplies, etc.)

 

Skills and Experience Required

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Clear communicator with strong writing and editing skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and streamline operations.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Tact, diplomacy and sound judgment.
  • A knowledge of Canada’s federal political and policy climate including key stakeholders and relevant issues.
  • Some familiarity with the role Public Affairs Firms play in advocating for clients and issue sets.
  • Experience (Work or education related) in the political or government policy areas.
