Position Summary:Perth County is looking for a Roads Summer Student to assist and learn various maintenance activities performed within the Public Works division. This position will provide the opportunity to assist and learn various maintenance activities performed within the Public Works Department. Provide support to Roads Operations Coordinator and Roads Foreperson.

 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Regular road traffic sign inspections, ensuring regulatory and warning signs are in good condition with no sightline issues/concerns
  • Set-up and maintenance of Traffic Counting equipment. Update County traffic counts/volumes for County roads
  • Assist maintenance crews with maintenance duties
  • Traffic Sign Installation
  • Traffic Control Person for County maintenance activities
  • Identify and mark locations along County right-of-ways for maintenance activities and generate online requests for utility locates for these areas
  • Patrolling/Reporting for Minimum Maintenance Standards along County roadways and right-of-ways
  • Maintain County vehicle, equipment and tools in good/safe working condition
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to immediate Supervisor
 
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or student enrolled in post-secondary education in a related field
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and a part of a team
  • Applicants must have a class “G” driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract
 
Shift:Monday to Thursday, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm and Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (44 hours per week)
 
Hourly Rate:$18.73
