JOB SUMMARY

This job is exclusively for Coop Students who are enrolled in a recognized post-secondary co-operative education program.

 

Currently public transportation in Ottawa is transforming into a bus and rail service and customer information tools are expanding along with it. In a high-volume communications environment with strict production

and operational deadlines, the incumbent creates technical drawings, graphics and visuals for use in transit public information and marketing programs. Incumbent works with transit marketing, communications,

planning, systems and operations staff to develop content in digital and print media.

 

KEY DUTIES

• Determines graphic requirements:
• Meets with transit staff to discuss purpose, audience, and intended usage
• Reviews existing materials
• Investigates alternative presentations and formats
• Consults with design staff and documentation for adherence to graphic and communication standards and established practices

Creates graphics:
• Reviews maps, schedules, illustrations, photos and architectural plans to determine content details;
• Organizes information in a visually appealing and effective format; considers look-and-feel, user requirements, and interface usability
• Creates maps and graphics files in vector, raster, video and audio formats suitable for the intended media.
• Arranges and ensures correct translation of text, graphics, and page-tags or other public code

Coordinates publication:
• Ensures completion of artwork according to publication release schedule
• Creates and updates website entries and graphics for multiple internal and external websites
• Creates maps and manages web content for detours and local events; works collaboratively with the web team to ensure that the website meets AODA accessibility standards, adheres to City of Ottawa design standards, and has the most up-to-date and accurate information; creates and validates data exports for external 3rd party developers; performs testing and validation on OC Transpo API

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Enrolment in a recognized co-operative Graphic and multi-media design program

KNOWLEDGE

  • Vehicle systems and sub-systems
  • Analytical and research techniques
  • Computer software applications such as MS Office Suite and drafting software
  • Maintenance information management systems
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
