Job Description

RRD is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic & motivated student to join our team in Warrenville, IL this Summer as a Unix/Linux Engineer Intern!

Position Summary

The Intern position is for a candidate wishing to go into information technology and specifically the Linux space.  The candidate will learn a number of tasks and responsibilities that are performed / adhered to by the rest of the team on a day-to-day business.  In addition, they may become involved in project work which would help them learn skills valuable to an engineer/architect on an ongoing basis.

The candidate will work in the Linux team that supports projects and operations which will include Linux operating systems, process automations and scripts designed to ensure continued functioning of applications.  Other key functions will include, participating in design, building virtual and physical servers, monitoring, performance tuning, level 1-2 investigation and resolution of system incidents and problems.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working with different business units to support the businesses and operational functions in one or more of the following areas: Network Infrastructure, Telecommunications Systems, Electronic Mail and Messaging infrastructure, operating system environments, or enterprise storage and backup. Engineer solutions for new systems and enhancements to existing systems.
  • Configure hardware and software for the corporate and production infrastructures
  • Providing IT operational support of the enterprise Linux environment by working with other team members with responsibilities for design, patching and other maintenance duties of all Linux systems.
  • Resolves routine problems with assistance or independently .  Applies technical abilities to recognize, research, isolate, and resolve basic hardware and software problems. 
  • Develop Linux Scripts and utilities.
  • Document and adhere to departmental standards and policies
  • Learn to troubleshoot and resolve complex Linux issues
  • Conform and comply with audit policies and procedures
  • Provide status and issue updates to managers and peers as required
  • Assist in the automation and consolidation of processes using Ansible/Ansible playbooks
  • Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • College level courses in the discipline of computer science or other relevant certification or work experience.
  • Up to 2 years of relevant work experience OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience.
  • Exposure and/or experience in the following Linux environment;  Red Hat, SuSe, CentOS, Oracle Linux, and AlmaLinux operating systems (typical versions are 7.x/8.x/9.x for RHEL or similar - 12.x for SuSE).
  • Able to translate previous coursework or work experience into problem-solving skills and appropriately apply proven solutions. 
  • Apply existing processes and procedures to solve problems and may receive guidance for problems that are non-routine.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. 

Additional Information

The rate of pay for this role at the noted location is $24.00 / hour. In addition to base pay, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay.
