About the Role

Description

 

Position:          Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op (Fall 2026)                     Business Unit: Hartzell Air Movement

Location:         Piqua, OH                                                                  Department:     Engineering

Reports To:     Manufacturing Engineering Manager   

               

Basic Function:    

Support a full-time Manufacturing Engineer by applying classroom engineering principles in a real-world manufacturing environment. Gain hands-on experience in process development, tooling, production support, and continuous improvement initiatives. 


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Apply knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials to support manufacturing operations.
  • Assist in developing and optimizing manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements and researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by evaluating workflow, space utilization, and equipment layout.
  • Support product and process quality by assisting with test methods, process capability studies, and manufacturing standards.
  • Review production issues, participate in root cause analysis, and help implement effective solutions.
  • Create, update, and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions and process flows.
  • Design 3D models of tooling and fixtures to support production and new product development using CAD software.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors, contractors, and the internal tool shop to source and build tooling and fixtures.
  • Participate in and help implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant processes, safety, quality, and efficiency.


Requirements

 Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Good organizational, analytical, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in continuous learning opportunities.
  • Experience with CAD programs.  Solidworks knowledge is a plus
