About The Company
The Lincoln Airport Authority is a local government entity existing under the Constitution and the laws of the State of Nebraska, including the Nebraska Airport Authorities Act of 1959. The Airport is owned by the City of Lincoln, but the City has given care, custody, and control of the airport to the Authority and the Authority maintains and operates the airport. The Authority is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of five members who are elected by voters of the City. The Airport presently encompasses an area of approximately 5,500 acres and is located approximately five miles northwest of downtown Lincoln. The Authority not only operates the airport, but also a one thousand acre industrial park, consisting mostly of manufacturing and warehousing tenants. The airport has approximately 85 employees including its own police force, as well as customer service, facilities and maintenance, and administrative personnel.

Marketing & Community Relations Intern

Join our team at the Lincoln Airport Authority as a Marketing & Community Relations Intern and help tell the story of Lincoln Airport! We’re looking for two enthusiastic, creative interns to support our Marketing & Community Relations team through year-long (or longer) internship opportunities. This role offers hands-on experience in marketing, communications, and community engagement within the aviation industry—perfect for students who want real-world experience in a fast-paced, public-facing organization.

Interns will assist with a variety of projects that support airport communications, branding, and community outreach while gaining practical experience and professional mentorship.


Internship Details

  • Pay: $17.79 per hour
     
  • Schedule: Flexible; approximately 10–15 hours per week per intern
     
  • Duration: Year-long or longer

Introduction

The Marketing and Community Relations Intern will gain knowledge of and experience with community outreach practices; learn and develop skills in event planning and communications, likely to include creative content planning, storyboard development, direction of video editing, social media content, and development of communications content. 


Essential Functions

  • Develop social media posts and calendar.
  • Assist with event planning and execution for local events.
  • Perform website updates when applicable. 
  • Complete a marketing/communication project over the summer that will be agreed upon by both the intern and the Director of Air Service Development and Strategic Marketing.
  • Assist in writing content for website, Strictly Business, and news stories. 
  • Assist with video and photography projects needed by Lincoln Airport Authority. 
  • Assist in the collection of customer feedback and analyzing data for customer surveys.
  • Attend applicable staff, stakeholder, and vendor meetings when available.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good communication skills with the ability to think independently and creatively. 
  • Prior social media experience is required. 
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. 
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design software and/or photography/videography experience. 
  • Must speak with clarity, and read and write English fluently.

Education & Experience

  • Must be enrolled in a college program during the internship, preferably studying marketing, advertising, journalism, public relations, or a related field. 
  • Intern must be a sophomore entering their junior year, or a junior or senior in college in a related field, at the time of internship.

Work Environment

This is an office environment having computers, printers, telecommunication tools, desks, file cabinets & storage areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.


Condition of Employment

The employee is required to meet the essential functions, skills, abilities, etc., listed in this document. The employee must be at least 18 years of age. Successful completion of pre-employment reference check, drug screening, criminal history check, DMV check, and other requirements as per Lincoln Airport Authority policy. Any associated costs for the screenings will be covered by the Lincoln Airport Authority.
