Substation Engineering Intern

Welty Energy, an affiliate of Welty, is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, substation engineering and construction oversight on transmission, substation and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV. 

Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, Welty Energy currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.  

Welty Energy is looking to add a Substation Engineering Intern to our Merrillville, Indiana team! As a Substation Engineering Intern, you will work on Electrical Substation design projects involving upgrades on behalf of the Utility.  

As a Welty Energy Substation Engineering Intern, you may: 

• Help to identify clearance points on switching systems
• Learn how to identify substation and transmission equipment
• Supporttheproject team with safety moments and capture meeting minutes
• ReceiveaFire-Resistant clothingallowance andaboot allowance
• Have the opportunity to visit Substation construction projects
• Support assigned projects and/or teams from the estimating phase through project completion
• Learn to review, redline, and markup Substation engineering plans
• Receive OSHA 10 Training/Certification
• Work with a buddy and coach for success within the internship and greater organization
• Participate in Lunch and Learns
• Work a schedule of 7 am to 4 pm CT, five days a week

What we require: 

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an Electrical Engineering Bachelor’s or Master’s degreeprogramfrom an ABET accreditedschool or university
• 3.0 GPA or greater
• Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• AutoCAD experience preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Effective organizational skills

Location: 

• On-site in Merrillville, Indiana

Travel: 

• While this role does not require travel, you may be offered the opportunity to go to work sites for additional learning opportunities
