Position Summary: 

The Intern position provides the opportunity to develop technical knowledge, build client management skills, gain knowledge from industry leading consultants to build a great professional career in advisory services for health and wellness programs. Provide support to consulting teams and department initiatives. Must have sound technical and organizational skills, a capacity to learn through experience, and a strong commitment to meet agreed upon timeframes and deadlines.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

The following list of duties and responsibilities are examples of the work successful candidates will be asked to perform. Candidates may not be involved with all of these functions as a regular part of their duties.

  • Support small & mid-market client consultants on annual, quarterly, monthly standard and ad hoc client reports, projects and analyses.
  • The main projects a candidate will be supporting are health insurance budget projections and financial reporting for our clients with self-funded arrangements.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with colleagues and clients regarding data collection and project tasks. 
  • Create documents and materials for meetings based on standard formats. 
  • Develop experience providing quotes, forms and email/phone contact with groups and members. 
  • Develop a good working relationship with all levels of staff. 
  • Increase efficiency by identifying ways to improve processes.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • College students that are enrolled in a degree program related to Mathematics, Statistics & Actuarial Science are preferred. However, college students that are enrolled in a degree program related Finance, Economics, Business, or other quantitative and analytical discipline will be considered also. The ideal candidate will be entering their senior year of college or enrolled in a post-graduate degree program.
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently, diagnose and resolve issues, and meet client deadlines
  • Great communication skills and presentations skills
  • Experience working as part of a team, including extracurricular activities, clubs, sports teams, etc.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel is required; Word and PowerPoint are preferred. 
  • Previous experience in an office setting is also preferred.

Other Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources. 
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Certificates and Licenses: 

None required. 


Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 


Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Computer Skills: 

Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. Fully fluent in Microsoft Office suite, particularly with Excel and PowerPoint.

Candidates must be able to work in the US without restrictions.


Position may work up to 37.5 hours per week during summer months (May – August) and, pending performance, may return for winter period (December - January). We request a minimum of 30 hours per week. Hours are flexible (candidate may set their own schedule within reason – generally during standard business hours) but must be agreed upon with manager and followed. The intern will work in-office, following the typical Monday-Friday schedule.


This is a temporary position for winter/summer internships. Candidates hired for this position may be considered for full-time positions following graduation. Students must be able to work from our headquarters in Towson, MD. Housing assistance or stipends will not be provided for this position, beyond the regular hourly pay rate, for those who are not otherwise living or attending school locally.
