AI Agent Systems for Physical Sciences Intern

We are looking for a motivated summer intern to work at the intersection of agentic AI systems and physics-driven modeling. The intern will contribute to the development and evaluation of autonomous or semi-autonomous AI agents, with a particular interest in applications related to physical systems and semiconductor simulations.

This role is ideal for students who enjoy combining machine learning, reasoning systems, and physical intuition to solve complex scientific or engineering problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, configure and evaluate agentic AI models (e.g., multi-agent systems, tool-using LLM agents, planning/reasoning pipelines).
  • Integrate domain knowledge into AI workflows to improve reasoning, robustness, or interpretability.
  • Assist with physics-based modeling or simulation tasks, potentially related to materials or semiconductor systems.
  • Analyze model performance and document findings clearly.
  • Collaborate with researchers/engineers across AI and physical sciences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Actively pursuing a master/Ph.D. degree in computer science, or PhD degree in chemistry, materials science, physics, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates in the final year of their program.
  • Hands-on experience developing agentic AI systems, such as:
    • LLM-based agents, tool-calling frameworks, or autonomous workflows
    • Multi-agent coordination or planning/reasoning architectures
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python; experience with ML/AI frameworks).
  • Solid background in physics (e.g., condensed matter, materials science, applied physics, or related fields).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge or practical experience with semiconductor physics.
  • Experience with semiconductor device or materials simulations (e.g., DFT, VASP, LAMMPS, TCAD, or similar tools).
  • Familiarity with physics-informed ML, scientific computing, or numerical methods.
  • Experience working in research-oriented or interdisciplinary environments.
  • Good programming skills with Python or C/C++.
