About the Role

Semester(s): 7th, 8th
Careers of Interest: Business, HR, Industrial Engineering, or related fields
Schedule Availability: Between 25 and 30 hours per week
Period of Stay at CEMEX: 6 months, with the option of renewal
Tentative Start Date: March 2nd, 2026


Detailed Description of the Project

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to design, standardize, and enable a single, centralized payroll input channel that consolidates all payroll-related inputs across locations, business units, and stakeholders.


Challenges for the Student

  • Understanding complex, multi‑country payroll processes
  • Managing multiple payroll input sources (emails, spreadsheets, forms, systems)
  • Dealing with inconsistent data formats and validation rules
  • Aligning global standards with local payroll requirements
  • Coordinating with multiple stakeholders (HR, Payroll, IT, Shared Services)
  • Ensuring data quality while working under strict timelines and deadlines

Main Responsibilities and Activities

  • Document current‑state (“as‑is”) payroll input processes
  • Identify all payroll input types (e.g., hires, terminations, changes, time, bonuses, deductions)
  • Map stakeholders involved in input creation, validation, and approval
  • Define standardized payroll input categories and naming conventions
  • Establish common data fields and mandatory validation rules
  • Support the definition of global vs. local payroll inputs
  • Support requirements gathering for workflow, approvals, and tracking
  • Create clear process documentation and flow diagrams
  • Participate in testing of the centralized input process

Specific Requirements / Qualifications

Skills, Competencies, and Knowledge Required

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program (Business, HR, Industrial Engineering, or related fields)
  • Interest in HR operations, payroll, process improvement, or digital transformation
  • Ability to work with structured data (Excel, forms, reports)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information

Additional Skills and Competencies

  • Process analysis and problem‑solving
  • Data validation and quality checks
  • Basic understanding of HR and payroll concepts (or willingness to learn)
  • Familiarity with process mapping techniques (e.g., flowcharts)
  • Proficiency in Excel and documentation tools
  • Exposure to workflow, ticketing, or dashboard tools (a plus)
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly
