About the Role

Ophthalmic Technician Internship - 2026 National Summer Internship Program

Vision Group is looking to hire students currently studying in eye care fields for its 2026 National Summer Internship Program. The purpose of this internship is to broaden students’ educational experience by providing them with hands-on opportunities in a clinical environment.

Vision Group is the leading provider of laser vision correction in Canada with over 70 clinics across North America. We perform over 50% of all laser vision correction procedures in Canada. We are committed to offering outstanding patient care using state-of-the-art technology.

What to expect: 
As a summer student, you’ll receive a hands-on approach to the methods and technologies utilized by clinical assistants and ophthalmic technicians in a world-class laser vision correction center. You will also be faced with opportunities to apply scientific knowledge and clinical skills that you’ve acquired at school to prospective patients in a customer-oriented clinical setting. 

Responsibilities:
  • Assisting and performing patient testing during the pre-op and post-op exams and completing the patient’s chart;
  • Skills: lensometry, autorefraction, visual acuity, pupillometry, fundus photography, corneal pachymetry, tonometry, corneal topography, corneal tomography, OCT testing of the cornea and retina, biometry, and corneal higher order aberration testing, are all taught and performed;
  • Interacting and assisting with optometrists or ophthalmologists;
  • Answering questions;
  • Ensuring excellent customer service.
Compensation & Duration of the internship: 
  • Students must be available to work 4 days/week (approx. 32 hours) for a total period of 8 weeks.
  • This internship will be compensated.
Eligibility To apply, applicants must:
  • Be currently enrolled in a recognized optician program.
  • Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (OMT) students are equally welcome to apply.
  • Submit a preference ranking of clinics where they would be interested in working (a list of LASIK MD clinic locations can be found at www.lasikmd.com).
  • Possess an acceptable level of French if applying for an internship in the province of Quebec & New-Brunswick (as well as in our two locations in Ottawa, ON).
