The summer intern will assist in the development and optimization of transfection method(s) to support R&D recombinant protein production projects.

 

The goal is to optimize transient and stable transfections of plasmids into mammalian cells to produce recombinant proteins. The project will involve extensive culturing of cells and supporting assays to measure transfection efficiency. The intern will learn about working and collaborating in biological labs within an industrial setting, where they will work on improving the transfection methods to optimize yield and reproducibility. The intern will participate in experimental design and execution, collect and analyze data, create summary tables and graphs, and help draft a technical report. At the end of the internship, they will present their findings to other departments.

 

Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education, and/or ability required.   • Must be a rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree OR be actively pursuing a Master's or PhD degree
  • Area of Study: Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical, or related fields. 

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

 

Skills:  

  • Previous cell culture experience is a must. Experience with  human suspension cells for recombinant protein production is a plus. 
  • Understanding and experience in flow cytometry is a plus. 

  • Experience with plate-based biochemical assays, such as ELISA. 
  • Proficiency with imaging platforms. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent record keeping.
