About the Role
This is a full-time summer internship opportunity. As an intern, you will assist the structural engineering manager with capital project design review and asset management tasks.
- Participate in large capital projects during planning, design, and construction phases.
- Review RFIs and construction submittals for conformance to contract documents and airport standards.
- Research record documents such as plans, specifications, and technical reports to verify existing structural systems, conditions, and capacities.
- Develop Building Information Models (BIM) for structures across the airport campus, with a focus on structural elements and asset data.
- Assist with the development of airport structural guidelines and standards.
- Conduct condition assessments on existing structural systems throughout the airport campus. The assessments will lead to developing projects to address deficiencies.
- Assist with the development and management of infrastructure small job projects.
- Assist in the annual review of existing structural assets, verifying inventory across the airport campus.
- A student – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a degree program such as Civil Engineering, with a Structural Engineering focus preferred.

- Use of Technology – You have knowledge of Microsoft Office products, with a strong emphasis in Excel. You’re able to sort data and stay focused when working on large data sets. You have experience with Revit.
- Organized and Proactive – You have excellent organizational skills. You’re able to read or quickly learn how to read construction drawings, research and interpret record documents, and organize the information in a cohesive manner.
- A Communicator – You have good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills in order to communicate in writing and in-person with various Port employees.
- Desired – We hope you have a strong mathematical background and coursework with a structural engineering focus. Experience with design of gravity and lateral systems for building structures. Exposure to Building Information Modeling.
