Reports To: Data Scientist

Purpose

The Data Science Intern supports analytics, data preparation, and model development efforts to support the organization. This role is designed for students or early-career individuals looking to gain hands-on experience applying statistical, machine learning, data engineering and software development techniques to build tools and automation that support operations within a healthcare and specialty pharmacy environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with data scientists and data engineers on tools, technologies, and best practices.
  • Participates in analytics or AI projects and help document processes, methodologies, and outcomes.
  • Contributes to presentations and summaries that communicate analytical findings to business and clinical teams.
  • Contributes to the design and development of internal AI-based software applications and APIs. 
  • Conducts exploratory analysis on patient, clinical, and operational data to generate insights.
  • Assists with data preparation, including cleaning, transforming, and validating datasets.
  • Supports the development and evaluation of predictive models and machine learning workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Basic proficiency in Python, R, or SQL.
  • Familiarity with Git and version control.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or project experience working with healthcare data.
  • Exposure to machine learning techniques or libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering, or AI application development.  
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Experience with NLP or text analytics (academic or project-based).

Work Environment

This role operates in a home or professional office environment and regularly uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.

Physical Demands

The intern is regularly required to sit, see, talk, and hear. They may also need to stand, walk, and use hands or fingers to operate equipment. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
