IT Intern – AI Automation & Process Optimization
About the Role The IT Intern will play a hands‑on role in designing, testing, and deploying AI‑driven automations that support both office and field operations within a commercial construction environment. This position is ideal for a tech‑savvy problem solver who’s excited about using modern AI tools to streamline construction workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve operational efficiency across project teams. You’ll collaborate with departments such as Project Management, Estimating, Safety, HR, and Finance to understand their processes and help build smart, scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities for automation by analyzing workflows in construction‑focused departments such as Project Management, Estimating, Safety, HR, and Operations.
- Build and test AI‑powered automations using tools such as:
Workflow automation platforms (Power Automate, Zapier, Make)
AI assistants and LLM‑based tools
Scripting languages (Python, JavaScript) when needed
- Assist in developing chatbots, document‑processing pipelines, and data‑extraction workflows for items like RFIs, submittals, safety reports, and daily logs.
- Support integration of AI tools with existing systems (SharePoint, construction management platforms, CRM, etc.).
- Document processes, automation logic, and implementation steps for internal use.
- Collaborate with leadership to evaluate new AI technologies and recommend improvements tailored to construction operations.
- Maintain data privacy, security, and compliance standards in all automation work.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
- Familiarity with AI concepts, APIs, and automation tools.
- Basic programming or scripting experience.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders, including field personnel.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to experiment with new technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform or similar automation tools.
- Exposure to machine learning or natural language processing.
- Understanding of databases and basic SQL.
- Prior internship or project experience involving automation, AI tools, or construction‑related systems.
