About the Role

JELD-WEN is currently seeking a EHS Internship to join our growing team.

 

Summary

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern supports the EHS department within a manufacturing facility by assisting with safety compliance, environmental responsibilities, and continuous improvement activities. This role provides hands‑on experience in workplace safety, regulatory standards, and industrial operations. The intern will participate in routine EHS tasks and will complete assigned projects that support facility goals.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily safety walkthroughs on the production floor to identify hazards such as housekeeping issues, improper PPE, chemical misuse, or missing machine guards.
  • Assist with incident and near‑miss investigations, including collecting statements, photos, and documentation, and participating in root cause analysis.
  • Support new hire safety orientation by preparing and organizing training materials and assisting with delivery of required EHS instruction.
  • Update and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Assist in environmental compliance tasks, including waste tracking, container labeling, and ensuring proper storage practices.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings, toolbox talks, and safety communication initiatives.

 

Project Assignments

  • During the internship, the EHS Intern will be assigned specific projects designed to build core EHS competencies and improve facility compliance or safety performance.

 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn manufacturing safety processes and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and stay organized.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

 

Competencies Developed

  • OSHA regulatory awareness and manufacturing safety standards.
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment skills.
  • Practical experience with incident investigation and corrective action planning.
  • Understanding of environmental compliance in an industrial setting.
  • Experience with EHS documentation, auditing, and program development.
  • Enhanced communication, problem‑solving, and project management abilities.
