1. Internship Topic

Effectively Managing Contractor Performance on MDB-financed Contracts

 

2. Summary of Job Description

The intern will

  • Perform a study of contractor performance management systems used globally; both private and public sector, contrasting them with those in use on MDB-financed projects. 

    The focus of the study will be on the key components of the systems that work effectively in other contexts and the variety of tools used to incentivize good performance and penalize poor performance.

  • Conduct analysis that will specifically focus on their practical application in the MDB landscape where contractors work across sovereign boundaries and different legal systems in contracts with ADB's (and other MDB) clients. 
  • Conduct research that will involve a mix of literature analysis, stakeholder surveys, and subject matter workshops.

     

3. Period of Assignment

Duration: 11 weeks

Timing: June 2026 onwards

 

4. Location

ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines

 

5. Expected Outcomes

The outputs will be a report detailing the overarching problem, the factors contributing to it, international best practice systems for managing performance, and recommendation how these systems could be applied in an MDB context.



6. Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a master's degree program or PhD in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Public Procurement, Public Policy, Law or other related fields

 

7. Relevant Experience and Other Requirements

  • Experience, or other accumulated knowledge in the areas of construction contract management, contract performance management on infrastructure projects, or other activities related to the scope of the study requested.
  • Preferably with 2-3 years relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
