About the Role

Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida (FHCSWF) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a mission of providing high quality healthcare services accessible to all people and has 4 in-house 340B pharmacies that serve patients of our adult medical, pediatric, women’s health, geriatric care, optometry, dental, and podiatric providers. Pharmacies are open from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday and are closed daily from 12:30-1:30 PM for lunch. Pharmacies are not open during weekends and are closed for most major holidays. Pharmacy Interns are required to be enrolled in an accredited College of Pharmacy and have an active Florida Pharmacist Intern License. Pharmacy Interns may complete Florida Board of Pharmacy approved pharmacist intern activities under the direct supervision of a pharmacist (such as prescription processing and filling excluding final verification, medication reconstitution, pharmacy-to-pharmacy transfers, patient counseling, etc.) at any of our four 340B outpatient pharmacies. Additionally, Pharmacy Interns may be asked to assist with population health activities, such as medication adherence outreach, and may elect to assist Pharmacy Residents with an ongoing research project. Pharmacy Interns can access EHR data of FHCSWF patients, giving them visibility to patient vitals, labs, medical and prescription histories, etc. which will improve effectiveness of patient counseling. Additionally, drug information resources (such as Up To Date) are available for pharmacy intern use.


DETAILED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs pharmacy technician functions as assigned (e.g. prescription fulfillment, reconstitution of pediatric suspensions, and patient check out).
  • Performs Florida Board of Pharmacy approved pharmacy intern functions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist (such as pharmacist-to-pharmacist transfer, effective patient counseling, provider outreach through the EHR, etc.).
  • Effectively utilizes EHR and pharmacy software for data entry, documentation in patient charts, and inventory maintenance.
  • Participates in removing outdated pharmaceuticals from shelves and updating virtual quantities on hand as assigned.
  • Maintains established procedures of quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and HIPPA compliance.
  • Completes population health related telephonic patient outreach regarding medication adherence.
  • Participates in activities with Pharmacy Residents such as patient counseling role play, topic discussions, and journal clubs as assigned based on scheduling availability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal professionally with patients and coworkers
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate PRN scheduling

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy Required

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Active Florida Pharmacist Intern License Required
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish preferred
