About The Company
Fraunhofer IGD is the international leading institute for applied research in visual computing. Visual computing is image- and model-based information technology and includes computer graphics and computer vision, as well as virtual and augmented reality. In simple terms, the Fraunhofer researchers in Darmstadt, Rostock, and Kiel are turning information into images and extracting information from images. In cooperation with its partners, technical solutions and market-relevant products are created. Prototypes and integrated solutions are developed in accordance with customized requirements. In doing so, Fraunhofer IGD places users at the forefront, providing them with technical solutions to facilitate computer work and make it more efficient. Owing to its numerous innovations, Fraunhofer IGD raises man-machine interaction to a new level. Man is able to work in a more result-oriented and effective way by means of the computer and visual computing developments.
About the Role

Developing innovative technology solutions and bringing them to application - that is our goal at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS. With our expertise in the development of photonic microsystems, related technologies including nanoelectronics and wireless communication solutions, we create - in flexible and interdisciplinary teams - technologies for innovative products in a wide range of markets such as automotive, industrial and aerospace.

The Center Nanoelectronic Technologies (CNT) conducts research on 300 mm wafers for microchip producers, suppliers, equipment manufacturers and R&D partners in clean room and laboratory areas at the "An der Bartlake" site. The CNT offers process and technology developments as well as services at Ultra Large Scale Integration (ULSI) level in the FEoL and BEoL area of various CMOS technology nodes.

Be part of change

  • Electrical Characterization & Reliability Analysis: You perform electrical characterizations and reliability analyses on integrated memory devices and ferroelectric transistors, ensuring precise and reliable results.
  • Data Evaluation & Process Optimization: You evaluate the obtained measurement data, identify optimization potential, and define improvements for processes.
  • Development of Characterization Methods: You contribute to the further development and refinement of characterization methods to meet advanced requirements.
  • Technology Development & Material Investigation: You participate in technology development, explore new materials and processes, and support innovation in the field.
  • Test Structure Design & Characterization Coordination: You assist in the design of test structures and coordinate characterization requirements to ensure compatibility and efficiency.
  • Reporting & Team Collaboration: You prepare professional reports of your results and actively discuss them within the development team to drive progress.

The tasks can be carried out as part of an internship or working student position, though it is also possible to pursue a Bachelor's, Master's, or Diploma thesis directly. Combining the thesis with an internship or working student activity is preferred.

What you contribute

  • Academic Background: You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, microsystems technology, mechanical engineering, or a comparable technical or scientific field.
  • Electrical Measurement Methods: You have basic knowledge of electrical measurement methods and an interest in practical laboratory work.
  • Solid-State Physics & Semiconductor Technology: Ideally, you have knowledge of solid-state physics and semiconductor technology or are motivated to learn in these areas.
  • Motivation & Working Style: You are highly motivated, work independently and practically, and approach tasks in a goal-oriented and structured manner.
  • Initiative & Teamwork: You demonstrate a high degree of initiative, are curious, and enjoy working collaboratively within a team.
  • Language Skills: You have strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.

What we offer
