Position Overview


The Area Plan Commission is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to support ongoing planning and transportation projects and daily operations. This position provides hands-on experience in municipal planning, data analysis, and report preparation. The intern will assist with research, data entry, and preparation of planning documents, while gaining exposure to local government processes and land use regulations.


Key Responsibilities


• Assist in the preparation of the Annual Rental Report, including data collection, organization, analysis, and formatting.

• Enter and verify traffic count data in spreadsheets or internal databases.

• Assist staff with transit planning, including transit desert analysis and first/last mile analysis.

• Conduct basic research related to land use, zoning, housing, transportation, and community development.

• Support staff with data collection and management, mapping, and document preparation.

• Help organize and maintain digital and physical planning records.

• Attend staff meetings or public meetings as appropriate.

• Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate, graduate student or recent graduate pursuing a degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Civil Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); familiarity with GIS or data management software is a plus.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Interest in municipal government and community planning.
