Job Description

As an R&D Intern, they will gain some knowledge and understanding of scientific research in an applied research program at Wonderful Orchards. They will be exposed to research in Pistachios, Almonds, and Pomegranates. As an R&D intern they will gain knowledge in irrigation, crop varieties, crop physiology, and crop protection. They will also be interacting with multiple departments (Pest Control Advisors, Procurement, Spray Operations, Reporting, Geographic Information System, WP&A, Wonderful Laboratories, Divisional Farming Teams). Some skills they will gain are internal departmental communication, critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving, leadership, Microsoft utilization (teams, outlook, excel), data analytics, time management, and detail orientation.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for monitoring, note taking, capturing pictures, and surveying trials throughout internship. 
  • Communicating with the West Valley farming team to obtain necessary information on trial projects.
  • Responsible for data collection and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with Research Technicians on collecting leaf samples from different pistachio varieties.
  • Delivering samples to Wonderful Laboratories.
  • Job shadowing research staff, attending meetings, etc. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a Wonderful Scholar in Sophomore, Junior, or senior year of college.
  • Agriculture, Biological Science, Plant Science, Crop Science related major preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age.

SPECIFIC KNOWELDGE, AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed and able to work autonomously.
  • Energetic and able to tackle new projects and ideas.
  • Research and analysis skills.
  • Ability to write and present reports as requested.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.

LICENCES:

  • CA Valid Driver’s License.

- Pay rate: $18.50/hour.
