About the Role

Ohio Department of Public Safety – Bureau of Motor Vehicles
Report In Location – 1583 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43209
Work Day and Hours – Work Days and Hours will vary between Monday – Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM depending on student’s schedule

This is an ongoing internship located in Columbus, OH.  The selected candidate will ideally be able to work throughout the school year and summer, for an average of 20 hours per week or less (with flexibility during the school semesters given class schedule and course load).

The pay rate for a college intern is based upon the student’s academic status:
•    Undergraduate student rate of pay - $16.93 per hour
•    Graduate student rate of pay - $20.59 per hour

What You'll Do as a College Intern:
•    Responsible for assisting with the day-to-day office procedures. Greet & respond to in-person, telephone & written inquiries in a professional, courteous, friendly, respectful & timely manner to ensure positive internal/external customer service.
•    Follow-up to ensure all of the customer's questions & concerns have been thoroughly answered
•    Provide information assistance to court officials, law enforcement agencies & to the general public
•    Utilize BMV and other ODPS systems for updating data records
•    Create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word, & PowerPoint
•    Research information to determine solutions and provide information verbally or in written form
•    Gather and provide statistical data for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports; maintain records & files as instructed
•    Attend meetings and training sessions including but not limited to: odometer tampering; odometer fraud, title jumping, title fraud, selling without legal title, failure to deliver title, forgeries & falsifications, selling motor vehicles without licenses, illegally obtained driver licenses, license plates, vehicle registrations, and identification cards
•    Travel to locations with Investigators and Investigator Associates to assist with conducting interviews, collecting evidence, performing dealer and VIN inspections, court appearances, surveillance review, and other related assignments
•    Perform other duties as assigned
 



The Major/Field of Study should be in:
•    Criminal Justice
•    Law Enfrocement

To be eligible for an internship opportunity at the Ohio Department of Public Safety, an applicant must:
•    Be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university.
•    Be in good standing with the college/university.
•    Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
•    Be enrolled in at least one course.
•    Be pursuing a degree or finishing a degree.
