ASARCO (American Smelting and Refining Company), the U.S. based subsidiary of Grupo Mexico, is an integrated copper mining, smelting and refining company with approximately 1,700 employees. The company operates three mines, associated mills and smelter in Arizona and a refinery complex in Texas, which includes plants that produce copper cathode & rod.
About the Role

About ASARCO Grupo Mexico 

ASARCO LLC is a subsidiary of one of the world’s largest Copper producers, Grupo Mexico, which ranks third in the United States in Copper production. ASARCO LLC is a fully integrated miner, smelter, and refinery of copper in the United States with over 2,800 employees spanning across 5 sites in Arizona and Texas. 

We are looking for motivated students with a strong interest in the mining industry. Our internship program is 10 weeks long, in which you will receive important industry training and get involved in meaningful real-world projects like planning a program, designing a process, or implementing technology. The culmination of your program will include an opportunity to present your work to management at ASARCO & Grupo Mexico. 

Position:Hydrology Intern 

Duties: 

  • Assist Slope Engineering and Hydrogeology with daily office and field duties.
  • Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly reports and presentations.
  • Assist with inspecting and troubleshooting monitoring systems and software. 
  • Assist with installing new monitoring systems. 
  • Assist with inspecting and reporting of field conditions.
  • Assist with drone inspections and interpretations
Qualifications

Education Requirements: 

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university on a full-time basis. 
  • Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level. 
  • Must be majoring in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, Hydrology, or closely related discipline.  

 

Knowledge & Skill Requirements: 

  • Must be driven and willing to always give your best.
  • Must be proficient at reading geologic maps in selection and plan views. 
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in stressful environments.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities. 
  • Must have time management skills in performing multiple projects with various team members. 
  • Must have the aptitude for software proficiency.

Experience Required:Must be able to identify and describe rocks and minerals. Mineralogy required; petrography/petrology, field methods and some knowledge of ore deposits preferred. 

Schedule:  8-hour shift    Monday to Friday
