Overview

Summer Nurse Extern Program - St. Catherine of Siena Hospital 

We are excited to be offering our Summer Nurse Externship Program. This program gives nursing students the opportunity to work in the hospital with members of the healthcare team. You will have the opportunity to work side by side with registered nurses who will serve as mentors. They will guide you in developing your clinical & critical thinking skills as you build your confidence as a nursing professional. Our Nursing Education team will support you and facilitate a robust learning experience. You will participate as a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Hospital Nursing team in the delivery of compassionate patient care.

 

St. Catherine of Siena Hospital is a proud member of Catholic Health and has served the residents of the Smithtown area for more than 50 years. St. Catherine’s is located on the north shore of Long Island in Smithtown. The campus is comprised of 296-bed not-for-profit community hospital; a 240-bed nursing and rehabilitation care center; and a 60,000 square foot medical office building. Our nurses, physicians, and support staff are devoted to providing advance health care in an environment of compassion to our patients, their families, and our community. Job Details

Our Nurse Externs:

  • Shadow an RN to learn about patient assessment & treatments. 
  • Observe care in Specialty Areas 
  • Rotations to Specialty Areas 
  • Perform skills similar to a nursing assistant, including but not limited to taking vital signs, performing blood glucose monitoring and bladder scanning.
  • Promote a positive patient experience.
  • Be a member of the healthcare team
  • Attend many nursing education programs
  • Other exciting experiences

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in a BSN program with completion of Nursing Fundamentals
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association.

Salary Range

USD $25.99 - USD $25.99 /Yr.
