About the Role

Company Description

Working at Boskalis is about creating new horizons and sustainable solutions. In a world where population growth, an increase of global trade, demand for (new) energy and climate change are driving forces, we challenge you to make your mark in finding innovative and relevant solutions for complex infrastructural and marine projects.

Job Description

Make your mark as Graduate Intern at DTED
Are you an MSc student looking for a graduation assignment where Python programming,
logistics, and large‑scale dredging projects come together? At Boskalis, you will work on
a real‑world engineering challenge and contribute to improving how complex marine
construction projects are planned.

Multi‑front dredging projects involve multiple work locations, shared dredging and
support fleets, variable weather conditions, and tight schedules, with planning still
largely experience‑based. In this graduation assignment, you will investigate how
simulation‑based optimization can improve resource allocation in such projects to
improve project performance while maintaining robustness.

You will work closely with Boskalis specialists and gain insight into how advanced
analytics and engineering come together in real projects around the world.

Your responsibilities

  • Formalize the problem: Define how to represent resource allocation decisions (who works where, when, and with what support) as decision variables, and specify performance metrics such as project duration, cost, and utilization.
  • Integrate simulation and optimization: Extend an existing discrete-event simulation (DES) model by coupling it with an in-house optimization approach to evaluate alternative planning strategies.
  • Work with real-world data: Use actual project and tender data in your project.
  • Generate useful insight: Analyse the results to determine which resource allocation decisions provide the best balance between project performance and robustness.

Your profile

  • You are currently enrolled in an MSc programme in a technical degree (e.g. TIL or Mechanical Engineering)
  • You have affinity with Python programming and an interest in simulation and optimization techniques
  • You are analytically strong and enjoy working on complex, real‑world engineering challenges
  • You are motivated to apply academic knowledge to practical applications within dredging and marine construction

Qualifications

What You Can Expect:

  • Warm welcome: You can count on a warm welcome so that you quickly feel at home at Boskalis.
  • Salary and more: As a student, you will receive a student allowance. In addition, we offer a fun work environment with lots of challenges.
  • A dynamic work environment: An internship where you can learn a lot from a leading company and where you will be part of a diverse team of experts.
  • Young Boskalis: Are you younger than 36? Then join Young Boskalis! Monthly social and sporting activities ranging from pub quizzes, yoga, boot camps, and an annual sailboat race. Networking and knowledge sharing are also an important part of Young Boskalis.
