About the Role

Every summer, KWS offers full-time internships (mandatory internships only) at our cereal breeding station in Bergen-Wohlde. These paid internships typically last at least one month – preferably longer – and take place between the end of April and October. During your internship, you will gain your first-on experience in practical plant breeding in one or more of the following areas:

 

  • Yield trials
  • Seed production
  • Line development

 

Your tasks

 

  • Conducting trait assessments and performing all technical tasks related to plant breeding
  • Supporting the team responsible for producing experimental seed in Italy 
  • Practical work during the harvest of trials and inbred lines
  • Preparing and sowing experimental seeds
  • Working in seed processing
  • Participating in lectures on practical plant breeding and breeding station management (“summer school”)

 

Your profile

 

  • Enrolled Bachelor’s or Master’s student in agriculture, horticulture, or a similar field
  • Strong interest in practical plant breeding
  • Perseverance when working outdoors and in greenhouses under various weather conditions
  • Willingness and flexibility to work overtime during peak season
  • Strong sense of community and team spirit
  • Willingness to travel for short stays at external locations
  • Good English skills, basic German skills are an advantage
  • A driver’s license (Class B) is desirable
