About the Role

Job Title: Tree Propagation Intern - Forest Research - copy

Sappi is offering a one-year internship for a recent Horticulture or Botany graduate to gain real-world experience in managing Sappi’s Rare and Endangered Tree Species Stewardship Programme. 

Location: Shaw Research Centre - Tweedie

The main responsibilities of the job:
- Implementation of nursery trials for the development of rooting protocols for any new species added to the programme.
- Travel to Important Conservation Area (ICA) areas for in-field identification and geo-referencing of wild populations.
- Facilitate seed collection, seed orchard establishment projects, and seed germination.
- Oversee data collection and prepare monthly reports on the progress of relevant projects.
- Liaise with relevant collaborators regarding plant production and distribution to local eco-rangers.
- Analysis of data, presentation of results and recommendations.

The ideal candidate must have:
-  Bachelors Degree or Advanced Diploma in Horticulture or Botany.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
- No prior work experience is required. 
- Good skills in planning and project management.
