Position Summary

As a Polymer Science & Engineering Co-op, you will gain hands-on exposure to how polymers and materials contribute to product performance, testing, and innovation. You will work with our R&D and engineering teams to learn about vinyl and related polymers, their properties, and their role in our siding and window product lines. This role offers broad experience across both the scientific and applied sides of product development, with opportunities to contribute to ongoing projects while building technical and professional skills.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Exposure to polymer formulations, additives, and their applications in manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with materials testing and analysis.
  • Participation in cross-functional projects related to product improvement and innovation.
  • Understanding the relationship between material properties, processing, and final product performance.
  • Gaining insight into industry standards, regulatory requirements, and sustainability considerations.
  • Opportunity to engage with both the research and technical aspects of product engineering.

 

Required Education & Skills

  • Enrolled full-time in a Bachelor’s program in Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in polymers, materials, or applied chemistry.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Self-starter with curiosity and eagerness to learn.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Coursework or lab experience in polymer chemistry, materials testing, or processing.
  • Interest in how science connects with real-world applications in product manufacturing, extrusion, and product performance.
  • Problem-solving mindset with curiosity for innovation.
  • Familiarity with basic programming, data analysis, or automation tools to support technical testing or process improvement.
  • Familiarity with Minitab, CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)

 

Location

Travel between West Salem & Cuyahoga Falls -- Onsite Only

 

Work Environment

The atmosphere is that of a manufacturing plant and office space. The position will primarily work where moving machinery produces noise. Employees must wear Personal Protective Equipment that is issued for that location. Temperature can range from extreme cold to extreme heat. Frequent use of company communication devices are required such as a computer, phone, and other office electronics.
