About the Role

Job Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer Intern at Bastian Solutions Inc. in Noblesville, IN will learn and support our manufacturing operations  to better serve for our customers.  This position will report to the Procurement/Sourcing Team Lead, with functional oversight and support from the Plant Manager. In addition, this individual will work with all manufacturing engineers across all manufacturing sites as needed for engineering support and troubleshooting any problems. 

 

Job Functions

As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern supporting sourcing, your primary focus areas will include the following:

  1. VCP Program Support:  A significant portion of your workload will be dedicated to supporting the VCP program. This includes performing technical validation to confirm that proposed supplier alternatives meet all required engineering, quality, and performance standards. This validation is essential before sourcing decisions can move forward.
  2. Supplier Selection for Ongoing and Annual Projects:  You will support multiple ongoing projects as well as recurring annual initiatives to help determine and maintain the preferred supplier base. This includes reviewing and confirming that supplier options identified by sourcing specialists are technically acceptable based on engineering requirements and negotiated agreements.
  3. ERP Data and Documentation Support:  You will assist in addressing documentation gaps within the ERP system, particularly related to drawings and technical files. Improving data availability will enable vendors to quote materials more effectively and support smoother supplier transitions.
  4. Engineering Approval Flow Support:  You will assist in coordinating the handoff of sourcing-identified supplier alternatives to engineering for approval. By supporting technical review and documentation, you will help reduce approval bottlenecks and contribute to improved project timelines.

 

Preferred Skills and Required Qualifications

  • Earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Advanced Excel skills, especially with formulas, data manipulation; preferred.
  • Working knowledge of a 3D modeling software package; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Previous experience using calipers, micrometers, cmm, etc..; preferred.
  • Strong, organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills required.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of MRP tools for planning/scheduling, preferred.
  • Possible limited travel to locations within our region to learn customer requirements.
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA long term without sponsorship.
