About the Role

Project Summary:

Carlisle Construction Materials is seeking a Commercial & Operations Finance Intern to join our team in Carlisle. This Summer internship offers hands-on exposure to the financial and operational drivers behind a high-performance industrial business, with opportunities to support real decisions that impact profitability, efficiency, and commercial strategy.

This role is well-suited for students who enjoy analyzing data, building models, and translating insights into actionable recommendations in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Expense Control & Cost Insights

  • Analyze operating expenses across manufacturing plants, distribution activities, and commercial functions
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and potential cost-saving opportunities to support performance improvement

P&L Modeling & Financial Impact Analysis

  • Develop and maintain financial models related to pricing, volume, material costs, labor efficiency, and freight
  • Support monthly forecasting processes and contribute inputs to the annual operating plan

Variance Analysis & Reporting

  • Perform monthly variance analysis versus budget, forecast, and prior-year performance
  • Partner with operations, procurement, and commercial teams to understand root causes and business drivers
  • Summarize findings and present clear insights to finance leadership

Margin & Profitability Analytics

  • Evaluate customer, product line, and regional margin performance to highlight opportunities and risks
  • Support initiatives focused on improving throughput, reducing scrap, and strengthening operational efficiency

Leadership Exposure

  • Present analytical findings to senior finance and operations leaders
  • Participate in plant tours, leadership roundtables, and cross-functional business reviews to deepen business understanding

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with attention to detail and structured problem-solving ability
  • Solid Microsoft Excel capabilities; experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus
  • Clear communication skills, including the ability to translate data into concise insights for varied audiences
  • Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and interest in building a long-term career in finance, operations, or general management
