BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the general guidance of the Senior Director of Industry development and the Senior Director of Site Development, the Strategic Business Development (SBD) Intern will engage in a variety of functions including geographic information systems (GIS) data development, geospatial data analysis, site selection marketing, and real estate portfolio management. The internship will provide excellent experience at the intersection of economic development, utility systems, industrial site development, and business marketing. The Intern will work alongside a team actively implementing industrial economic development policy via the FAST NY Shovel Ready Grant Program and the POWER UP Grant Program. This team will launch a mapping system to impactfully display the sites developed by these programs and market them to grow the economy of NY.
WORK PERFORMED:
GIS Data Development: Digitize, validate, and publish key site features, infrastructure alignments, and related geospatial data layers to support SBD site selection platform. Includes work with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
Data Management & Analysis: Assist the Senior Director of Site Development with quality control/quality assurance of geospatial layers and attributes. Perform geoprocessing, data conversion, and associated functions necessary to populate SBD site selection platform. Organization and management of SBD strategic site portfolio.
Site Selection Marketing: Assist the SBD FAST NY project team to compile, format, and curate site and facility collateral in support of site selection related requests for information. Includes work with PDF files, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Dynamics.
Assume a variety of Department-wide responsibilities as assigned, such as writing briefing memos, preparing complex spreadsheets, performing business and community outreach.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education level required:
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program with a major in/or: Planning, Environmental Sciences, or related. Courses in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Knowledge Required:
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to adjust readily to rapidly changing priorities and shifting deadlines. The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing is essential. Careful attention to detail and accuracy are required, as well as excellent organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, detail-oriented, and has a passion for mapping.
HIRING SALARY: $16.00/Hr.
