BASIC FUNCTION:

The Intern will support the work of NY Ventures, Empire State Development’s venture capital investment arm, which promotes innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth across New York State. The Intern will assist investment and program staff with research, analysis, and administrative support related to venture capital activity, startup ecosystems, and state-supported innovation initiatives. This position provides an introduction to public-sector economic development, venture investing, and startup support programs. The intern works closely with the team supporting and investing in emerging and regional fund managers.

WORK PERFORMED:

  • Conduct market, industry, or policy research related to other private/public innovation infrastructure programs and strategies to determine how to further improve on the work of NY Ventures.
  • Partner with the Fund-of-Funds team to design and execute an intern-led research project incorporating fund manager interviews and market analysis, to produce curated insights for external communications, including LinkedIn and the website.
  • Participate in due diligence and portfolio support activities for venture fund managers and portfolio companies, including reviewing submitted materials, conducting data collection and synthesis, shadowing manager interviews, and supporting the evaluation process.
  • Support the preparation of briefing materials, presentations, dashboards, and internal reports for investment and operations teams.
  • Assist with coordination of meetings, events, and stakeholder engagement activities across the NY Ventures ecosystem, as needed.
  • Provide general administrative and project support as needed to advance NY Ventures initiatives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education level required:

  1. Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate degree program in business, finance, economics, computer science, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, technology, or a related field

Knowledge Required: 

  1. Interest in venture capital, entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic development
  2. Interest in inclusive innovation, access to capital, and expanding access to venture funding across geographies and communities
  3. Basic understanding of business fundamentals, financial concepts, or startup ecosystems
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  5. Knowledge of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, including familiarity with how it is used in business, research, and data analysis contexts
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  7. Ability to conduct research, analyze information, and present findings clearly
  8. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment

 


HIRING SALARY:  $17.00
