Title: Aerospace Intern

Job Description:
Omitron is looking for a talented Aerospace Engineering Intern to join our team. We are a company rooted in ensuring mission success across flight operations, trajectory design and analysis, software tools, and space flight safety.  This internship will allow students, new graduates, and those pursuing a career change a chance to enter the fast-growing industry of applied Aerospace engineering.  Our team has extensive experience and access to space data, tools and processes, making this a unique opportunity to start a career in the space industry.
The engineering intern will develop the knowledge and expertise to solve various operational and mission challenges. A successful intern will learn and understand processes to coordinate and integrate relevant information and findings across multiple functional areas to develop and deliver space analysis products enabling customer situational awareness and decisions. Skill Requirements:
  • Understanding of spacecraft systems, flight dynamics, navigation, orbit determination, and predictions using mathematical models and algorithms
  • Ability and willingness to multi-task and be capable of applying innovative analysis in a dynamic work environment to solve customer problems
  • Willingness to study and understand orbital or space science data and non-regular data message management
  • Ability to learn how to apply orbital mechanics to real world problems
  • Aptitude on compiling statistics based on current space object population
  • Education and/or experience in code design
  • Intermediate proficiency in Python
Preferred Qualifications
  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior at an accredited university pursuing a degree related to job description and skill requirements
  • Experience with one or more astrodynamics tools (MATLAB, ODTK, GMAT, FreeFlyer, GTDS, Monte, STK)
  • Familiarity with Python numerical and libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciPy
Required Experience:
Industry space experience is not required for this position.  Education requirements in space-related programs which include preferred coursework are listed below.

Degree Requirements:
Candidate must be enrolled in or have recently completed one or more of the following preferred degree programs: Aerospace Engineering, Astrophysics, or Aeronautics.  As curriculum contents vary by institution, other related programs will also be considered.

Preferred coursework includes Spacecraft Control, Spacecraft Attitude Dynamics, Experimental Dynamics & Control, Spacecraft Detailed Design, Spacecraft Preliminary Design, Space Mechanics, Spacecraft Systems, Astrophysics, Orbital Mechanics, Systems Engineering, Space Vehicle Dynamics, Space Vehicle Design, Control Systems, Rocket Propulsion, Space Environment, Astrodynamics, Numerical Methods, Statistics and Probability, Aerodynamics, Orbital Mechanics, Model Based Systems Engineering, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Space Environment, Thermodynamics, Partial Differential Equations

Security Clearance Requirements:
Clearance is not required.
Candidate must meet eligibility requirements and be willing to complete a background investigation.

Employment with Omitron is contingent upon meeting and maintaining eligibility requirements

Job Location:
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD; the candidate is expected to provide their own transportation to and from work each day. Possibility for Remote (Zoom, Teams) collaborations.
