About The Company
The MFA is open. Open to new ideas that broaden our perspectives. Open to every visitor, from the curious to the lifelong learner. Open to new possibilities discovered through art. Showcasing ancient artistry and modern masterpieces, local legends and global visionaries, our renowned collection of nearly 500,000 works tells the story of the human experience—a story that holds unique meaning for everyone. We welcome diverse perspectives, both within the artwork and among our visitors. Where many worldviews meet, new ways of seeing, thinking, and understanding emerge. The conversations we inspire bring people together—revealing connections, exploring differences, and creating a community where all belong.
About the Role
The Stewardship team sits in the Development department and oversees all aspects of donor relations and recognition. The team works in concert with the frontline fundraisers in stewarding donor relationships after a gift has been committed, ensuring thoughtful acknowledgement, appropriate recognition, and a customized suite of benefits tailored to the size and structure of the commitment, and the interests of the donor.

The Stewardship team is seeking an undergraduate intern to support daily team operations, including research, writing, and operational assistance with two donor stewardship programs—MFA Travel and the Benefactor Program. Responsibilities will include liaising across departments (including Curatorial, Conservation, and Learning and Community Engagement), drafting donor-facing materials, and supporting preparations for high-level donor events and travel opportunities for the coming year.

The selected candidate will report to two Development Officers and will support the work of the entire Stewardship team. In addition to gaining a broad-based understanding of best practices in donor relations and stewardship, the candidate will have exposure to all aspects of a fast-paced and collaborative Museum Development shop.

Ideal candidates must be able to commit to work onsite 17 hours weekly, mostly between 9am-5pm Monday-Friday between June 15 – Aug 21. Additionally, interns must attend orientation on Mon, June 15, (10am-3:30pm), and the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Thursdays: June 18; June 25; July 2; July 9; July 16; July 23; July 30; Aug 6; Aug 13; and Aug 20.

The intern will be paid at a rate of $16.80 per hour and will receive a $90 per month transportation subsidy and $1,500 housing subsidy – paid in two equal installments. (Both subsidies are subject to taxes.)

As we amplify our efforts toward becoming a truly inclusive institution and fostering the next generation of museum staff, the MFA actively encourages students from all backgrounds to apply to the program.
