GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

These are Summer Student positions working eighty (80) hours bi-weekly, from May 2026 to August 2026 within the Parks Branch of the Public Works Department. These positions are within the CUPE 1505 Bargaining Unit.

 

Under close supervision, the General Labourer Summer Students will perform manual labour duties to support Parks operations. Tasks include but are not limited to cleaning and maintaining all assigned areas, operating a variety of small equipment and hand/power tools of a limited-skill nature, and performing general labourer duties.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Ability to understand instructions and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively with co-workers and actively contribute to team activities.
  • Ability to perform manual labour for extended periods of time and in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to listen attentively and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • General math, numeracy, and reading skills.

 

 

EDUCATION:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of one (1) year of post-secondary education is required.
  • Candidates must be returning to full-time post-secondary studies for the Fall 2026 semester to be eligible for this position.
  • Students currently enrolled in a Greenkeeping, Turf Management, Horticulture, Environmental Sciences, or related program may be given preference for this position. However, students from all fields of study are encouraged to apply.

 

 

Candidates who are successful during the interview process will be required to provide the following documents:

 

  • Proof of full-time post-secondary enrollment for the Winter 2026 and Fall 2026 semesters.
  • A copy of a High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
  • A copy of a valid Class Five (5) *Driver’s Licence (non-GDL) and a Driver’s Abstract. *Note: GDL will not be accepted. Proof of licence and a Driver’s Abstract (issued within 30 days) will be required from candidates.

  

These documents are not required at the time of application, however preparing and collecting these documents in advance will expedite the recruitment process for successful candidates.
