Pay Range: $18.42-$21.38

About Us: Established in 1975 by an act of the Virginia General Assembly, the Capital Region Airport Commission owns and operates Richmond International Airport (RIC). The Commission directs the growth, operation and business activities of RIC and works tirelessly to ensure it continues to be an affordable option for local, regional, and out-of-state travelers.  

Open to: Undergraduate, freshman, sophomores, juniors, or seniors and graduate students.

When : 12 month program, internship is on-site only.

If you’re ready to start your career in IT with real-world business experience while performing technological systems support, maintenance, and testing for proper upkeep of systems, troubleshooting system hardware, software, and network conflicts, plus collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, this internship is a great opportunity. 

Description of Responsibilities:  

  • Technical support and systems maintenance with exposure to ticketing systems.
  • Hardware deployment and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in meetings with technology vendors to learn about procurement and large-scale contract management.
  • Explain complex technical issues to non-technical staff.
  • Remain calm and focused in a high-pressure 24/7/265 operational environment.
  • Familiarity with the concepts of Cloud Computing, IoT, and API integrations.

Required Experience: 

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field.

Required Skills: 

  • Foundational Networking: Understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, and wireless protocols.
  • Hardware Savvy: Comfort working with physical hardware, from desktop PCs to server rack cabling.
  • Data Literacy: Basic proficiency in SQL or data visualization tools (like Power BI or Tableau) to help report on system uptimes (preferred but not required).
  • Moderate physical activity to include walking, standing, or lifting up to 25 pounds.
