Are you a civil engineering or survey technician student looking for an internship opportunity? At Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI), we are scientists, engineers, GIS specialists, software engineers, and surveyors providing innovative and practical leading-edge science-based solutions to public, private and non-profit clients. 

Consider joining our team as a Survey intern! A Survey Intern with HEI will be involved with practical on-the-job projects, spending the majority of time working with outdoor surveying and/or construction phase activities.  

Job Description

As a Survey intern, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

  • Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
  • Mark points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark.
  • Travel with survey crew to different civil engineering project sites around town.
  • Place stakes at designated points and drive them into ground at specified elevation.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a two-year civil survey technician program, Civil Engineering program or related field. 
  • Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
  • Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
  • Above average math and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel.
